1/24/2015 8 Comments What's up with your 'it'?My inspiration for writing It! Happens: A Practical Guide to Finding Your It came in realizing that there are so many people in this world that are crippled by not taking action out of fear. Not that everyone walks around afraid to try new things or think for themselves, but fear, I have found is an inhibitor of action and growth for many. Some people don't want to look dumb; others are afraid if they do something the way they feel it should be done (for better results) that their ideas will not be accepted. Excellence, on the other hand has a foundation of love or positivity. By breaking through the shackles within our own perceptions and shifting our outlook we can crush the fear within us and produce greatness; and so many of you have this but we just need a mind shift!

When I was a kid you could find me on any weekend or after school walking the neighbor's dog, mowing lawns, or shoveling snow. From an early age I had a drive to have a better life. Coming from a poor family I knew that this would not just happen on its own, I would have to make "it" happen. I went on to receiving a full scholarship to a prestigious university. I stayed up all night at times after a night bussing tables in high school to achieve high marks. I was driven. My "it" was prevalent from an early age. The status quo were out partying. I was studying or working. I balanced fun in during that time but the ratio was askew to my goals. I have my parents to thank for being so supportive of my going for "it". I'm now a successful lawyer with a wife, 3 beautiful children and several vacation homes. "It" made my life possible, especially when my friends made fun of me.

Jerry- It's amazing how strong 'it' is in some people and others don't even know 'it' is there. I am so happy that you shared this with everyone. Your example of foregoing all the fun that your friends were having while you kept your eye on the prize provides a vivid illustration of doing something above average. Your life manifestation of above average is evident. I would imagine your "success" could be told in one story after another of how you handle your clients. I imagine this too is "above average" and beyond what is "expected". That is where 'it' is differentiated from mere success- 'it' adds value through the unexpected that is above the norm.

I was searching for another title and was curious about the Kindle title so I purchased this for my Kindle. Wow! I am so super glad I found it. I read this over the weekend and found the book entertaining and informative. The book made me think about how I sometimes make excuses for not "taking it to the next level." My New Year's resolution is to work on my "IT". Thank you Jolene this has inspired me to be a better person.

It feels weird saying this, but my nana was full of it and I hope I will turn out just like her. She would give the shirt off her back for another. She was the most kind-hearted and gentle soul. She was also one tough cookie. I remember one time when she emptied every can in her pantry at the news that a family down the street was going through difficult times after a job loss. My nana passed many years ago but she left the world with a legacy of her it.

I too had a wonderous grandmother that I strive to be like. What a great blessing we have in our role models!
